Draw Latin Fashion, a former Vogue girls’ journey
Picking up your bags, moving across the Atlantic, immersing in the digital world, grabbing a chocolate scone and a hot coffee while sipping it in an outdoor shop in Amsterdam, this is how Draw Latin Fashion started.
Having left her home in Mexico City, Talía Cu, founder of the Draw Latin Fashion project travelled with no clue of what was next. The weeks passed by, months and then years… she began to be inspired by the style and wardrobe of the people, the tourists, and began identifying the trends… surprisingly, Talía started doodling around with Latin American details that were still embedded in her mind and style. Having been a former Vogue Mexico Digital Coordinator, her knowledge of designers in the LATAM region was a hard thing to take off her mind; as they say, you can take the girl out of Latin America but not the Latinness out of the girl!
Today, the headquarters –or posting center I could say!- of this project have moved back to its homeland: CDMX, and gives an opportunity for different illustrators to join and submit their work regardless of their location. Within this platform, illustrators are not only given an opportunity to exhibit their work, but also shines a bright light on the regional designers in a digital way… Making truly, the future of drawing as present as possible.
The most recent initiative: #DrawLatinFashionMx is calling out on a digital campaign for all those who want to submit their drawings for the upcoming SS19 collections during Fashion Week Mexico, where national talent such as Sandra Weil, Armando Takeda and Alfredo Martínez will be presenting once again. For this edition, both Benito Santos and Kris Goyri, two national and world renowned designers have taken a special interest in promoting the art of drawing and have invited three illustrators each to assist and sketch live from the seats… this together with the Draw Latin Fashion platform, even more illustrators are welcome to join digitally by drawing any of their favorite looks and share their work by using the # (above). This togetherness not only evokes creativity, but a unity between communities as well, where distance or borders don’t really apply. Are you up for the challenge? Don’t hesitate, submit your work!
